I have been feeling this pain under my right rib constantly for a month now. It feels like there is something inside but i don't feel any hardness of mass..Has anyone have the same pain?..I am scared that it might be my liver or something else..Please give me some ideas what could it be? Thanks!
Hi, well I had been hurting there for so many years. I went to two gastro docs. Finally?
After 9 years of the pain? I had my new internest fix me up with a "Professional". I could not believe it. I told him of my pain, plus between my shoulder blades, and shortness of breath. He said, "You have chronic pancreatitis" and needs to have a
"procedure done to place a stent in the gall bladder duct." See? I had my gallbladder removed in 99. They also found out while there, I have pancreatic spasms. I just saw
my wonderful Gastro doc yesterday. He said that I might have to have the other procedure done. He has me on pain meds. For flare ups. Oh, by the way? I was admitted to the hospital right after the test because while they were touching my pancreas? The doc already told me I might have to stay because it might cause me to have pancreatitis. Well? I had to stay in the hospital for over a week. This procedure he did was an endoscopic something.. They do the procedure through your mouth to your problem area. I am hoping this might help you.
I had a to call my Dr. this past week because I started to get sharp sore pains in my rib area all around, even to my back. They said it can be from a strained back and the muscles in between the ribs can get problems with back issues.
Luckily, I took some Advil and rested a bit and it went away. I also had a problem a few years ago w/ inflamation of the lining of my lungs. It was Pleuricy and very painful. I needed Predasone to help it.( Sorry for unsure of correct spelling)
Hi, I had been having the similar pain you have described. I had it for so many years, and had to fire 3 Gastroenteritis along the way. I was in the er after a 4 wheeler accident. Once they gave me morphine for my pain? I began screaming! I told my internist about this reaction. He gave me a referral to see a "Professional". Once I got into his office? I described this: I hurt constantly in the mid around the right rib, and between my shoulder blades in which It is hard for me to breath. I laid down, and all he had to do was push in a certain spot and I nearly came off the table. He knew instinctively what I needed. since I had already had my gallbladder removed way back in 99, he said I need you to go in for a test. They had to put me to sleep, and before I went under, I had to open my mouth and they stuck this plastic round thing
in my mouth to keep it open. they then (I was asleep) placed a long tubular
shaped thing in my mouth which went right into the top of the intestines. There, they found out I have chronic spasmodic pancreatic. Also placed die
in the tube so they could watch it move around through the biliary ducts and found out they needed to place a stent to open my duct, because it was blocked. I ended up staying in the hospital because, (if you have this
procedure? It could cause a person to develop pancreatitis.) Which in my case? It did. Once they placed the stent? My diareah, and pain was a little better. I just saw my Doc the other day, and he gave me a script for pain meds to use. He then told me I should think about the other surgery which is more detailed for my problem. They would actually have to hold
the pancreas and put a hole in the other side, to help the flow of the working pancreas. I am also taking Creon 40 because my pancreas will not function properly if I don't take it. Do you experience shoulder pain, and hurts more when you breath in? Do you feel better if you bend over? Does that re leave your pain some? He told me that many people don't know they have pancreatic problems because of the location of the pain. I hope this helps you. It took me too long to find out what my problem was. I hope you don't have to wait that long
hi I am also having that test scope down the throat with ultra sound.......they are going to take a biopsy of the pancreatis. I have a small mass there but doc doesnt think it is cancer.......wants to make sure. I have pain under ribs it got so bad stomach ribs and back so much pressure. You mentioned they used dye......that is scary for me I dont do well with dyes. I am like you I am finally getting test I need my family doc blames everything on my back .........but my back specialist totally disagrees. Family doc sent me to a cancer specialist...........he wants the scope test to take. a good look at everything. The pain has been going on for a while now mine comes and goes but not totally. Last month it was so so INTENSE I had to go to the ER 5 times in one month......I hate to do that but I had no choice. I talked to a PA about going to the ER and she said I shouldnt have to worry about going there if I am that much pain I should go there. That made me feel better.......but for now it is calmed down some. My test is Oct 23..........hope I dont have to stay there would be my luck lol. Take care all
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who suffers from right rib pain. I'm still at a loss as to what is causing it. I contracted a bacterial infection last June and was hospitalized for two weeks. I had pneumonia in both lungs and sepsis. Doctors now believe my problem started in my gall bladder. I had an ERCP, at which time they placed a stent in my bile duct. It has since been removed, but I now have horrible pain in the lower right side, as well as what feels like nerve pain in my lower right abdomen. It hurts when even my clothing rubs against my skin. I've had CT scans, ultrasounds, even an MRI, and all that shows up is sludge in my gall bladder. I have now been referred to a surgeon, to see if he thinks my gall bladder should be removed. I also have another ERCP scheduled this month, as the brushing they did revealed A-typical cells. I've been told it's not cancer, so what is causing all this pain? Could it be nerve-related and not gall bladder related? I've also asked my family doctor to refer me to a neurologist. I need to get to the bottom of this. Any info. from anyone else suffering from this would be extremely helpful.
Sorry to hear you are suffering so bad
I did have an upper and lower ultrasound done - all good. I am suspecting that this pain is coming from my stomach. My doctor did say that pain in the stomach can be referred pain to the rib and right side. I am watching very closely as to what I eat and what attributes to the pain. So far, can't pin point it - my pain has subsided for 2 days now. I do know for sure it is my stomach because when I take a pill for Acid it goes away. Digestive issue are common in my family. Take care.
Thanks for all who response my message..I already went to the Dr. and had an ultrasound the result is negative..But up to this time the pain still there..Specially when i sleep on my right side it feels like pressure inside my right ribs..The Dr. seems not worry but i don't feel well yet..I had a blood test and its all normal..I feel like there is something like ball or hard pressure but i cannot touch it..I don't know what to do or where to go..I just don't want to be late if there is something wrong..Is there anyone has the same feeling like mine and had found the treatment of cause of the pain? I would appreciate some advice or thoughts about this problem i have.. Thanks!
My sister is having pretty much the same trouble. She had her GB removed a little over a mth ago due to it not functioning properly. But since the surgery she has had pain on right side in back under her rib area and when I mash on it it hurts. She had CT done yesterday and it was all normal (except for cyst on her ovaries). But nothing showed where this pain is coming from. I mentioned the oddi disfunction deal and she said we would need to see gastro docs for this. If its not that it would have to be pulled muscle. Well if that was the case it wouldn't last this long. You usually have to wait a long time to get in to see the gastro docs around here. I was concerned about her liver but they said normal. Thank goodness!! So I guess we wait. Hope you are feeling better.
I am have the exact same pains and symptoms everyone has mentioned here. I had my gallbladder removed on 1/30/09 after pain for over 1 yrs and 8 months. The 2nd HIDA scan showed the gb working at 34% but this 2nd surgeon said the pain I was in warranted the removal. The pain was typical gb pain; under the right rib, radiating to the right shoulder blade and feeling almost like you have to stretch your right arm, or even your entire back, out to make the pain feel better, but NOTHING makes it go away.
I went back to work after 3 weeks, even though I was still in a lot of pain, but after only 3 days, I couldn't handle it. If I sit up for more than about 20-30 minutes, the pain is almost intolerable, and it's very hard to breathe due to the pain.
The surgeon had do blood tests and a CT. The only abnormality was a 2mm cyst on my right ovary, which he said was "normal", and then he referred me back to my primary care physician, because he thought it was something in my "lumbar" spine, gave me flexiril and told me, "I can't do anything else for you." Mind you, I am trained in the medical field, and this pain is nowhere near my lumbar area. When I spoke to my PCP, he suggest a GI specialist, and also suggested something about my back. I went to my father's GI specialist and saw the nurse practitioner who was nothing but attentive and mentioned everything I've read in my research. She said it sounded like sludge or something with the bile ducts and ordered an ultrasound immediately, as well as a colonoscopy (family history of colon cancer) and what I thought was an ERCP for a month later. She gave me something like Bentyl, because I can't take Bentyl, which I ended up being allergic to, as well, and sent me on my way.
When the results from the ultrasound came back, a week later, because of Spring Break, the pain was even worse. Of course, the only thing it showed was a fatty liver, because I have put on 60 pounds in the past 22 months, with 7 surgeries. By then I was in worse pain, so I saw the nurse practitioner again the next day, 3/17. She decided to move the 2 "oscopies" up, and I had them on Thursday.
Like I said before, I "thought" I was going to have an ERCP, but when I got home and was able to read the reports the next day, it looks like I only had an "esophagogastroduodenoscopy". From what I can tell, it didn't involve any dye, and I didn't have the procedure I thought I was going to have.
I did, however, find out I have a hiatal hernia and gastritis, along with colitis. So, what do I do? I have an appt with my PCP in about 9 hours, and the people who work in the GI's office are seriously inept. They can't even take your pulse manually. The doctor is one of the best in my city, but at this point, I'm not really sure what to do, and I don't want to lose my job and insurance.
Oh man I am so sorry you are going thru this. My sister isn't in pain constant but it comes and goes and she says it feels like a sharp pain sometimes. She has mild retardation so she can't explain the pain very well to me. So I have to put her thru everything to figure out the cause. I really hate the idea of going to our gastro docs because the office or the docs is not very nice and they are soooo busy they act like they just don't care anymore. Sounds like you are going to need the ERCP didn't you say they didn't do that? My sister had c-oscopy also and showed gastritis and they think she has IBS. All of this so frustrating!! Good luck at ur appt.
