EDG for Pancreatitis?

I was just diagnosed with Pancreatitis this morning. Had a CT scan, blood tests which showed increased Amylase and Lipase levels and am now having an EDG in the morning to try and find the cause. How does this test find the cause? Doesn't it just look at your GI tract-not the pancreas? The doctor thinks I need to be in the hospital but I don't feel THAT bad. He acts like it is pretty serious, but other than having pain on the right side under my ribs which radiates to the back and feeling nauseated, I don't feel horrible. Should I be worried?

Also, is an EDG the same as a regular Endoscopy?
