possible cause of hot flashes

I'm 52 yrs young female who has recently started having major hot flashe surges ,when I was 21 yrs old I had a partial hysterectomy my Doc.left one fallopia tube.Recent years I had mild flashes just around the neck area now thirty some odd years later I've startd having almost unbearable hot flashes that starts in the top of my head and travels down to just beneath my breast. My question is, is this normal?
