Question question about my daughter...

my 8 yr old daughter has just been diagnosed as going thru early puberty...she has the hair in the groin area, acne, and more...i'm curious...the dr also checked her for underarm hair. she told me once it develops, it's usually not too long until the first period. alayna (dd) has an appt on jan 18th, but i'm worried that it's not soon enough. once she develops an early period, is it too late to stop the early puberty? am i overly worried for nothing? this is my only child (as of right now), and i seem anxious over every little thing

any answers any one may have would be very appreciated!

Re: question about my daughter...

I didn't know they could stop early puburty.

Question (please don't be offended) Is your daughter heavy set? or have special needs?

I have a theory that the heavier the child the sooner girls go through menarche. I went through around 11 yrs and was overweight. I had lg boobies in 6th grade.

My daughter is 12 and not even close to starting. But she only weighs 65#.

special needs children do start earlier too.

Re: question about my daughter...

oh no, i am not offended...
yes she is on the heavy side (not bad, but you can tell she is heavier)...her dr. said it's not too much of a worry, that she hugs the top of the percentile whenever she has her yearly well check. but she does need to loose some.

i read online that they can stop the process of early puberty if they feel it's necessary. i'm thinking she probably won't stop my dd from it....but i really want her to get checked out, because i'm worried that there may be a link from the early puberty to polycystic ovary syndrome (something i suffer from).

i was also heavier when i was younger, but i didn't start until i was 13...i think that sounds closer to normal...well normal from back then i'm not sure what it is now.

thanks!
