help? endometriosis/ovarian cancer - Endometriosis Message Board

Looking for advice.
Have been having sharp pain in right pelvic area for almost a year, more and more as time passes. Doctor had hip x-ray done=Normal. Had vaginal ultrasound done=Came back with "pelvic fluid" and ovaries heavily coated with follicles. They think it may be endometriosis because I have always had several periods. But now with the pain on my side, always feeling bloated, gas, stomach feels full, nausea...sound I be concerned? Who actually views your ultrasound? Is it someone specialized like a gynecologic oncologist or is it someone who reads ALL ultrasounds? Are the follicles really that or could they be tumors? Is the difference between them very obvious on an ultraound? Doctor is vague, can anyone advise me here?

You should clarify with your doctor as to whether or not there is any reason at all to be concerned. If there is the slightest possibility that your problem is any thing but endometriosis then ask to be referred to a oncologyst who specialises in gyn. cancers. You will want to ask for a CA125 blood test which is a good indication if something is going on or not. Below 35 is normal. Also, you may want to ask for a CAT scan. That will also be able to tell if there is something suspicious.

If you have endometriomas which is an endometriosis cyst on your ovary your symptoms could very well be similar to ovarian cancer. If the cysts are large enough you may feel upset stomach constipation gas ect.. You may feel an ache where your ovary is. You may also have disturbances in your menstual cycle or acne ect. There is no way to know for certain whether an ovarian endometriosis is actualy endometriosis without opening up the cyst. You should ask your doctor for a ca125 blood test and vaginal ultrasound. If your doctor is not doing enough for you switch doctors right away because it's not worth waiting even if it turns out to be only endometriosis.

Another way to tell if it is endometriosis or not is to have laproscopy surgery. Last year, I had a partial hysterectomy because of endo. My symptoms were the heaving bleeding, pain constantly in the lower pelvic area and back, bloating, severe cramping. Good luck.
