Pain management for Endometriosis, What's your experience?

What has helped you with pain relief for endometriosis? I just need to hear from other people who can relate. Thanks!

Re: Pain management for Endometriosis, What's your experience?

Hi
I really had terrible pain from endo, in my lower back throughout the month not just at period time, and stomach aches. My endo pain has got a lot better recently. There are a few things that Ive been doing:
1 - Ive been seeing a chiropractor - I went to see him about my neck and he found that my spine was slightly out down in my lower back so he has been working on that.
2 - Ive been taking slippery elm (in capsules from health food shops). It really helps the digestive system, where a lot of endo pain comes from.
3 - I was told that eating a lot of red meat just clogs everything up, causing pain for women with endo. Im only eating red meat now maybe once a fortnight.
4 - Ive cut out wheat and dairy after finding that I was intolerant to it.
5 - Ive started taking EFA - a mix of essential fatty acids
6 - Ive also started taking agnus castus.
I started 1, 2, and 3 in Dec last year, the last 3 were only in the last two weeks, the pain has dramatically reduced.

Hope that all helps, I would definately suggest taking slippery elm even if you do none of the other stuff - take 2 capsules twice a day with a meal.
Cheers
Tess

I use icy hot patches, heating pads, 800 mg ibprofen, darvocet and percoset when the pain is unbearable. I also have a tens unit that I use on and off. I take flax seed oil that helps with digestion, and I excercise regulary. Good luck to you.

Unhappy Re: Pain management for Endometriosis, What's your experience?

Hello, I'm seeing a obgyn DR for ovarian cysts, fibroids and possible Endo. I have had a miserable time for over a year! I have been searching for a dr to do a Lap and help me. I have been to many drs this past year. My new DR wants to do a lap very soon. And I had thought I found someone to finally help me. I had been getting Tylenol #3 from my GP DR for a few months, once a month a 4 day supply. (Which really isn't enough.) And then this month he decided I needed to get it from my OBGYN. Made sense to me. So I was expecting my period and called my OBGYN and he told me I shouldn't have to take anything except. Ibuprofen and Tylenol. That if I have Endo my pain wouldn't be at different times of the month, and my pain should only be a stabbing pain. I can have extreme pain which is unbearable, not just stabbing pain. I also get back and leg pain. The only thing that helps at all is vicodin or Tylenol #3 and then that doesn't always help. I also get pain when I don't have my period. Why did my OBGYN say these things to me? I just get the feeling he said this stuff to me to avoid giving me pain killers. I still want to have the Lap done. But I am afraid if I have Endo which there is no cure for. Then what? I have to suffer the rest of my life in pain? I also believe the cysts and fibriods cause me pain too. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Pain management for Endometriosis, What's your experience?

Hi, sounds like you are having a bit of a tough time.
I have endo, and it caused me immense pain, down my legs, in my back, stomach. It isn't always a stabbing pain either, its really burning and aching that normal painkillers just don't touch. And I get bad pain throughout the month, not just at period time. I would say have the lap because then you know what you are dealing with. And if you do have endo there are different treatments that can help the pain. For instance you can go on the combined pill which helps a lot of women. They can also remove any endo deposits in the lap which can help some women.
Hope that helps
