Question Just diagnosed with Endometriosis & have questions......

I was just told last week that I have Endometriosis. I have to see a specialist, but cant get in to see him until the 29th. My GYN isnt concerned about it, but of course it isnt HER body. Does anyone know if they will definitely do a laparoscopy to see how bad it is? I'd hate to wait 2 weeks (to me its an eternity) just to find out he's going to read my ultrasound! If its bad, I want to get a hysterectomy & not have to deal with this nonsense ever again. Thanks for any info. Jina

Jina...the only way to diagnose endometriosis is by laparascopy - an ultrasound does NOT show this disease. Also, do not rush into a hysterectomy, as it does not CURE endometriosis. This is a horrible disease and you should really do some serious research on the condition before you make any decisions. If you have an endo specialist and your condition is not too far advanced, they should be able to remove a lot of the lesions through laparascopy and hopefully give you some relief. Good luck! Katie

Re: Just diagnosed with Endometriosis & have questions......

Hi Katie-Thank you for the info. I have been on pins & needles for 1 week so far. I have bitten my nails down pretty far. I see the Endo specialist next Monday. He previously had his own clinic. The Certified Midwife that I have been seeing for 10 years said I have endometriosis. I said I didnt know what it was & she gave me pamphlets to read. I will be 46 next month & have been having peri-menopausal symptoms for 4 years. THAT & my period every 3 weeks is NO picnic. At least if I have a hysterectomy, I will have no period, no cramps (once the hysterectomy heals) & no menstrual headaches. My menstrual migraines have been severe & the certified midwife kept saying I would grow out of them. I was almost ready to switch to a different practice (HOW MUCH do you need to complain?) when she finally ordered an ultrasound. I have 3 older sisters who ALL had hysterctomies. ALL different problems. ALL told me to do research, but until I see the specialist, I dont know exactly WHAT my problem is. By the way, I see a midwife, because it takes 3 months to get an appt with the GYN, not because Ive been trying to have a baby. Thanks again for your info. Jina
