I'm writing because I was recently told I might have endometriosis by my female gynecologist---having pelvic pain during sex, usually on the right side.
Ok, lets start from a few years back...
When I was 18 I had the Essure procedure done (this was in 2007 I believe). Procedure went fine, went for the checkup and everything turned out well, healed up and the fallopian tubes were blocked.
Probably about 1 and half years later I started feeling discomfort during sex, and it wasn't like the sex changed or anything, same partner, same stuff!
I went in for an ultrasound and they found a mass which they believed to be a cyst. 4 months later went for another ultrasound, they found the mass had gone away and things seemed to be in the clear, BUT, I was still having uncomfortable sex?! 6 months ago I saw my gynecologist and she said we'd monitor the periods and pain etc. It seemed like the pain was more likely to happen during periods but the truth is it never really stopped. It is always there to some degree. Very rarely there is NO pain at all, but thats unusual.
So a few days ago I went back and she told me I might endometriosis. So she is having me take Danazol for a few months to see if there is any changes. I asked if the Essure procedure could possibly be the problem and she said highly unlikely. I dunno, maybe scar tissue is over forming? When they did the ultra sound they didn't say anything about it and they knew I had it done...?
Possible factors I'm trying to think of but seem highly unlikely, I did gain about 25 pounds since the procedure, but now that I think about it, the pain is more specific. I've also had slight liver problems in the past that are back to normal and being monitored on a regular basis. My diet is not all that great....? I was born HIV+ and I read that the immune system is a factor for endometriosis, but I'm a fairly healthy person and my HIV is undetectable right now.
It just seems so weird that we don't really know whats causing the pain... Which it could be this endometriosis. I've been reading about other's stories post-Essure and it seems quite a few women have had problems with it, maybe the coil was misplaced, didn't heal up right, etc.
Anyone else have this problem under similar circumstances, or any new info that I could use and questions to ask my doctor?
Thanks so much!
