Can endo damage sciatic nerve?

I have sciatica that is always severe around my period. Had all the regular tests for sciatica without any relief. Had a D&C last year. After pap yesterday, it showed endo cells. Will have another transvaginal ultrasound and then possibly a biopsy. I talked with my gyno. about endo and she said it could be the cause of my sciatica, but it would not damage the nerve. She is really not wanting to do anything because I am 52 and should be close to menopause. My concern is that it can damage the nerve permanently. From what I have been able to glean from the internet, it is definitely a possibility. Definitely do not want to live with this the rest of my life. Anyone else have experience with this? If I went to a different doctor, should I go to a different type of doctor? Very frustrated.

Yes, I had the same thing when I was 42. I was having severe episodes of sciatica with muscle spasms around the time of my cycle. The bottom half of my body felt like it was on fire and I would scream from the pain. I found out that I had endometriosis and a fibroid. My doc first tried a d&c which did not work. Then he reluctantly suggested a hysterectomy. I knew that there were no guarantees for success but I also knew that I could not live with the pain. I had the hysterectomy but kept my ovaries. The pain was immediately and drastically reduced. After one year was completely gone. I was fine for about 10 years. I am 55 now and I'm starting to have problems with sciatica again, this time due to a bone spur and arthritis in my spine. It is not as severe as before. I hope this helps you and that you find relief soon.

Re: Can endo damage sciatic nerve?

I forgot to tell you that my docs theory was that the fibroid and the endo were forcing my uterus tp press on the nerve and that during my cycle my uterus would swell and cause even more pressure.
I've read that the nerve may be damaged if you lose bowel and/or bladder control. If you think you need to see a different specialist, you might want to try a neurologist.
