Question Please, 45 and need serious advise...

Hi all.

I am a 45 year old woman whom know pretty well I am in early stages of Permi. I also have Endometriosis and had surgery a few years ago to clean the pipes.......as the dr. would say.

My problem is My periods still come pretty much on time maybe a few day's off but the severe Cramps and fatigue and pain is killing me. I went to one OBGYN and right off the bat that I need a hystrorecomy. I Want to keep my overaires even if just one for I am not ready for menipause even though I know it will be coming.

What are so options? Should I see another OBGYN? I am on a antidepressant right now and anxiety medication for It sky rockets that time of the month.

I have just heard so many scary things about a Hystr. Like you age faster, gain weight, etc. Is this true? I have got to do something.........I can't handle being ill every month. Please, ANY Suggestions would be helpful............any.

God bless you all with this horrible disease, I have live with it for over 20 years, and not having any kids..................so please help..............I just want to feel somewhat better that time of the month..........

Re: Please, 45 and need serious advise.......

Hi, I am 45 too and have had a lot of problems with endo. Have you tried conservative treatments for the endo? I am treated in the UK so things are probably different, but lots of people find relief from the combined contraceptive pill, the progesterone only pill or the mirena coil. I know you said you are not ready for menopause but the other thing to try is GnRH medication, which puts you into a false menopause. I had two surgeries for endo and I am now taking naferelin, a GnRH drug which you take as a nasal spray. I had a rough time with it the first couple of months but now I am doing great on it - no periods and no hot flashes either! My doc has said that hopefully I can stay on it till I've gone through the menopause. I think you have to decide what is most important - an improvement in your pain situation, or not becoming menopausal.

Whatever else you have heard about hysterectomy, it is not always a cure for endo. If your OBGYN is saying that, it's time to find another doctor. I would strongly recommend you search for a doctor who is an endo specialist. I don't know when your surgery was, but most good docs would suggest conservative surgery first before leaping in and doing a hyst. If you were to have surgery and had all visible endo removed, then went on a hormone treatment such as progesterone, you might find your quality of life greatly improved. If you were to end up having a hyst, it would still be best to have it done by an endo specialist - that way they can make sure they remove any endo at the same time, to lessen the risk of further problems. Good luck!

God bless the quick response.

I had my surgery back in 2009. I am so scard to have a full blow hystrorectomary. Did you have any side effects with your spray, like weight gain, etc.

I am in the united states........and just lost what to do..........

Re: Please, 45 and need serious advise.......

If you had surgery in 2009, I'm really surprised that your OBGYN wanted to go straight for a hyst. I think that a good surgeon would be happy to do another laparoscopy before taking a decision. They could see how things are now with your endo and remove any that has grown since your last surgery. That alone could give you relief.

I don't have any major side effects with the spray. The first two months were a bit tough, but once the hormones kicked in everything was so much better. I didn't gain weight - in fact I've lost some. My skin and hair got a little greasy. I think it makes me a bit tired, but it's hard to tell as I was on opiate painkillers before the spray and I've reduced the dose a lot. So I'm less tired from the meds. I was really scared of trying a GnRH treatment but I am so glad I went ahead and did it.

I think your next step is to find a good endo specialist. That's what turned everything around for me. Search online - I think there are endo associations in the US that may be able to help you with this.

You are awesome

I thought nobody would get back to me. I am so sorry you are going through this too. Does the Evra patch put any weight on you? I will talk to my dr. about this today, open for any other options.......

Hugs.
D

Re: Please, 45 and need serious advise...

ya on me the weight gain was horrible and im only 17 i dont look the weight i am but on a scale i definitly gained alot and it gave me some acne too (but of course this could have been from the birth control needle i tried for 5 months) I just have to suggest that i highly reccomend not going on the needle my aunt my mom and me have all been on it before and it was the worst 5 months of my life. i had bled 24/7 that whole 5 months. i went to the hospital once thinking i was hemorraging because of the amount i was bleeding. it was horrible! but the evra patch has worked the best for me im just not sure what has made me gain this weight, could have been the needle before.
GOOD LUCK definitly talk to your doctor about it to see whats best for you
