Re: My apartment still troubles me...

I too lived in an apartment with mold. My throat closed up, itched and bled and my nose swelled shut. Sometimes at night my through would burn so bad that it felt like someone poured acid down it. My friends couldn't come over without geting sick either.

I finally called them on all kinds of probmlems and violations they didn't fix so I was able to break my lease.

Re: My apartment still troubles me...

I was wondering how you made out after you moved and if the problems went away?

Re: My apartment still troubles me...

Well, I've lived several places since November of 2004. Here is what I know:

I'm never bothered by my parent’s home, regardless of improvements involving paint, carpet and new construction.

I always have some trouble in other places when they have had any sort of improvement:

- Pension Hotel in Italy, nothing done for years = No trouble (lived there for 1 month)
- Small apartment in Italy, freshly painted/no carpet = Trouble for the first two weeks (lived there for better part of a year)
- In-laws, new addition, low VOC paint and hardwoods = Trouble for the first month (decided not to live there)
- 1950s era house refurbished in 04 = Trouble for the first month, some continuing minor trouble, but nothing compared to the apartment that started this thread!!! (still living there)

So, I think it’s caused by paint and caulk, but I can never be sure. Like Beerzoids mentioned, I may be sensitive to trace amounts. However, I cannot understand my lack of sensitivity to my own parent’s house. It's a newer house than my in-law’s and my own. Regardless, exercise seems to mitigate my troubles a bit and I try to consume some form of probiotics.

Are you having problems?

Hey guy! Hope everything is going great for you and your family!

Puzzling!? Usually, with MCS, the longer the contact, the worse it gets.

My sensitivities have gotten worse, but are still under control, more or less. I'm now sensitive to electronic equipment, especially laptop computers, no matter how old. With other electronics, if I age the device for a week or two, it gets more tolerable. I just bought a DVD recorder. I aged it for a week, and it's behind glass doors so I am not having a problem with it, but I have to use a glove to use the DVD remote! I'm going to test the remote today, without a glove, to see if it still gives me problems.

Were there electric lines near the "sick" apartment? Was there a lot of traffic outside the apartment? Was it in a more crowded neighborhood than your other places?

Red face Re: Apartment problems trouble me

Beerzoids,

You mention you have your chemical allergies under control. How did you do that?
