Anyone know if you can become ill from black mold streaming out of air vents in apartment? Growing on rug? Symptoms of illness and could it cause fertility problems?

I know I am responding 2 months after your post, so I hope you check back. For the past 3 months I have been sneezing non-stop, had pains in my lungs, tired constantly, gotten bloody noses (which I never had before) and even had a seizure (I have epilepsy but I haven't had a seizure in 3 years). I am usually a very healthy person. I live in an apartment and when I noticed a leak I had the maintenece guy come check it out. He cut the wall away and there was black mold in there! The wall is being fixed now but I am already starting to feel better by keeping the windows open and not using the heat (brr, but heat helps mold grow). I am not sure what your symptoms or experience is like, but I hope my story can help.

"Black Mold" can certainly cause health problems, but remember that the common black-colored mold that we often see in our homes is not the famous Black Mold that is causing the very serious health problems. I looked it up on some reputable websites and discovered that the serious Black Mold is actually green in color - I am not kidding.

However, common black mold is very bothersome, especially to people who have allergies and respiratory problems.

I will have to second the fact that the poisonous black mold is very rare, although the news would like to have people believe otherwise. I was talking about normal black mold that I just had an allergic reaction to. If you think you have mold poisoning then definately go see a doctor.
