What about this treatment for MCS? (Chemical Injury)

A close friend of mine has chemical injury or MCS his life has been so changed from this he can't use any hardcore chemicals like bleach, ammonia, etc etc and even certain shampoos. We were talking yesterday and he said you know I would give up my smell if I was able too.. Thats when I said "is this possible" would this work? if you could somehow plug your nose and make it look like it's not even plugged but have it so you can't smell anything.. has this been thought of with MCS patients???

Re: What about this treatment for MCS? (Chemical Injury)

IF your friend has chemical sensitivity, this would not work. It's not the smell, but the chemicals that are making him react. To that point, if you plugged your nose it would still enter your body through your mouth and skin. As a smell sufferer myself, I thought about what you mention a long time ago and now realize the chemicals can(and will) enter your body other ways.

Also for many with MCS, this hyper sensitivity to smells is an early warning system, which often saves them from great harm. As exacerbating as this sometimes can be, it is MUCH worse to be exposed and have no idea what did it to you. At least now your friend knows what to avoid.
