Saw the neuro Monday... I think I wasn't there!! - Epilepsy Message Board

Hey guys! I went to the neuro on Monday and I feel as though I wasn't in the room (if that makes sense

) Bare with me.... He uped my topamax to 100mg a day and decreased my magnesuim oxide to 200mg a day. ( Before you read anymore cross your fingers.... are they crossed.... you sure..... I'm trusting you..... I'm on my 15th day without a seizure!!! Thats my best in two years!!) This is only my second day on the increase so I haven't noticed to much on side-effects.... alittle anxiety maybe and jitters but thats about it!!

The reason I say I feel I wasn't in the room was my husband was talking to me in the car about the appointment and he was saying something about understanding more about the mag oxide. And I was like... what? He goes well I understand why he prescribed it to you more now and why you can't take as much now. And I was like, well he just wants to see if I'm still having the side effect headaches. My husband gives me this weird look and goes into this big discussion. Well I won't bore you with it, but I can't take such a big dose of mag oxide (400 mg) with a bigger dose of topamax (100mg)! I missed the doctor explaining this!? How? I was in the room, I'm sure of that. What the heck happened?

I'm not gonna call the doctor and tell him, I'll note it in my seizure calendar. Could you imagine that phone call though? But I just don't understand how I could of been right there and not of heard any of that...

More good news, there was no mention of a hospital stay!!!!! Maybe I got my point across last time better than what I thought I had, so thanks to all who gave me advice in my last post!!

Hey Lisa, It is also possible that you were on onformation overlaod. It is always good to have someone go with you. I do not have seizures and think I have a good memory, and I have had appointments just like you described. I did not think I missed a thing, but the person with me catches info that I missed. It is a GREAT idea to write it in the seizure log though, because it is weird to be there and feel like you were not. Sure hope the changes help you a lot....

Would have to agree with the pp above. We (mommy and daddy) always try to go together for the kids appt. because one of us will always miss something. Don't beat yourself up over it too bad.

And Lisa - even those of us who don't seize "check out" now and again, where we just aren't engaged so to speek in what's going on around us. You just may have been thinking WuHu... no seizure today... WuHu... Happy Dance... oh... what was that you said? Don't stress it to bad!
