Has this happened with your epilepsy? - Epilepsy Message Board

Hi guys,
The other day I woke up and found that my left eye and that side of my temple were swollen. Ithought it was just maybe a reaction of hair in my eye or something and went to work, but as the day went on I notice the left side of my face swelling up and then it started to go numb. About an hour after I got home that side of my face got paralzed and I could not move muscles or even open my mouth on the left. I went to the emergancy at my hospital and they just told me it was my E and gave me a jab with the needle for the swelling and sent me on my merry way. I have had Epilepsy for 24 years and never had a siezure or reaction that was like this. I rang my specialist and the quickest I can get in is next month. So question is has anyone had this happen to them? If so have you been told what it is?

That never happened to me, but I may not have your seizure type. What kind of seizures do you have? Do they or have they ever caused paralysis? Some sz types do. I'd suggest that you go to your Medical doc first in case it has nothing to do with your epilepsy. Several things could cause a reaction like that. Your Medical doc could be more thorough and possibly rule out some things. Maybe even give you the cause and diagnosis. Phoebe

Hi,
Thanks for the advice Phoebe. I thought it could be related to my Epilepsy as when ever I have a siezure it is always the left side of me that is affected with out fail. Normally I have partial complex, temporal lobe and tonic clonics when I loose total conscious and end up in hospital. As I was saying normally I don't get paralysis with my siezures. Anyway I have made an appoitment to have a full medical checkup with my GP so hopefully he may be able to shed some light on it. My neuro seemed a bit cautious about it and just told me to keep a diary on it if it happens again.
