my brother is 34 yrs old and recently he was diagnose w/epilepsy,but I was wondering if anyone has experience the same thing as he has it only last about 30 sec to a minute,he is alert but hes hands get stiff and he feels like he has a knot in his thoat and cant breath he turns a pale color and watery eyes,and then starts to gag trying to catch his breath,has anyone experience something like this.We need your help..

It sounds like a simple partial seizure...I started to have them in my 30's. It is perfectly normal to feel like you can't breathe during a seizure. It is a scary thing to witness, you must feel very anxious. But remember that it is a physical process, just some neurons misfiring.

Has your brother been started on medication? It may take a few weeks to determine whether that medication will be effective or if the dosage needs adjustment.

Your brother is lucky to have you with him. We will be thinking of you both.

Hi, I started having seizures just a few days after my 34th birthday. Initially the doctors thought that i may of had encephalitis. I had most of the symptoms and had been in an area where there were a lot of mosquitos.

When I have had seizures, I get dizzy, my ears ring and my left arm gets numb. I have also felt the left side of my face get somewhat number.

I have had CAT scans, and MRIs. The doctors are not really sure what is causing this. But ever since my first seizure the severity of all the subsequent seizures have been milder and milder.

I too have trouble breathing when I have had seizures, the doctors said that since I snore at night, when I "Seize up", I kind of slobber.

Initially, I was really disoriented for days following the seizure. Then as recently as this weekend, I have gotten dizzy but no longer seize up.

The discription you described seems familiar with myself as well. I am 22 years old, but was diagnosed when I was 15. Usually i get seizures in my sleep...but those who have witnessed them tell me it sounds like i'm choking and gasping for air.

When I've had seizures while conscious (simple partial) I have an extreme tightness in my chest. My chest feels heavy, making my breathing seem irregular. People have told me that I too loss some colour in my face.

I hope your brother finds medication that can control his seizures...they are not always fun, haha

Wokstor, have you ever noticed if anything brings on your seizures? I have noticed that if I get stressed, angry, or am watching something like boxing/UFC I get a reaction.
