Night time seizures and depression - Epilepsy Message Board

Hi all,

I've had seizures for 20+ years and slowly building up another problem. I've been having depression cycles for some time now. They usually occur in the middle of the night when something awakens me (bathroom pitstop). Anyway my thoughts and feelings seem so depressed along with thoughts of suicide. I still feel bad in the morning, even if I get back to sleep, and it can last until late morning or lunch before I come out of it. I've learned to avoid conversations with other people during that time, because I don't react normal and my wife doesn't even talk to me unless it can't be avoided. A couple of years back I tried an anti-depressant and stopped it after it seemed to trigger some seizures.

Anybody do the same? Think it's actually a seizure, even though no other signs? Is it just these damn drugs I will probably never get off of? Any comments, thoughts or ideas will be greatly appreciated. Wish you all the best.

hi kodo..

i'm sorry hear that you are feeling depressed...i to get night seizures (as in, wheni 'm sleeping). However, i do not get depression. I did, when i was a teenager, and i think it was teenage hormone problems. Now i am 22 years old and i'm not depressed.

Have you mentioned this to your doctor? that your depression hasn't been lifted? What type of medication are you taking? is it maybe related to a specific problem? (work, family, etc). Perhaps there are alternative meds that you can take that won't trigger seizures. I"m currently on Lamictal, it seems to be helping...who knows, it is for people who are bi-polar too..it could be steadying my mood. I'm gonna ask my doctor about that when i have an appointment.
