Unhappy Update on my situation

Hi Everyone,
Hi guys you may remeber the fun and games I was having recently, if not here is a recap. June last year the left side of my face went numb, temporarily paralyzied and dropped. I went to the hospital and the doc said it was a viral thing that got in through the eye. Told me to go home and I would be fine. After a few days my face was back to normal.
I started having some minor probs with my speech in September and put it down to my Epilepsy. Then around Christmas I noticed that my limbs would occasionally give way for no reason. I will be walking along and my left or right leg would suddenly collapse and I noticed my strength was also not good. Since new year my face on the left side has dropped and temporary paralyzed again about 8 times most recently in 5 consecitive days. I have been seeing stars on occasions for no reason that I can see and I've had a consistant headache over the left eye. My speech now is noticably not good I often stutter over words and even have trouble getting the words out. I am also excessivly tired and drained.

Ok guys, I got the results from the MRI and EEG. The MRI said there is nothing wrong and my EEG is like it always is just slightly unstable. The specialist says he can't see any reason why my face should not be moving properly, and why I am getting these headaches and tingling sensations. I have asked him if it is possibile to be MS as it does run in the family or another form of Epilepsy but he said that would have showed up on the EEG Hmmmmm I'm not entirely convinced. Something is still not right and things have been becoming more frequent and on some occasions interfering with work so I am keen for them to figure out whats going on. Blood tests should come back on Tuesday & I have to ring back the doc for the results.
Does anyone have any ideas here, I am getting frustrated as I don't feel right and I am wonky on my legs. I am getting more questions and not enough answers here.
Suggestinons anyone?
Lori

Re: Update on my situation

Lori, I am so sorry the tests were not any help! How frustrating to have these weird symptoms and not know why! I would keep pushing for answers. I know one thing for MS DX is a Lumbar puncture (NOT fun) so I wonder if that might be next?

Can the facial things be a Todd's paralysis or a bell's palsy? Something to ask the neuro.

I sure hope you get answers. I am assuming that transischemic attacks would show on MRI?

so sorry, hope you have answers very soon!

Re: Update on my situation

I spoke to the neuro about the Bells and Todds paralysis and he does not think it would be that. I am getting to the stage where I am about to pound my fist on the table and scream "FIX ME!!!!!!"........lol I dont think it would go down well though. We will just have to see what is going on but my GP definately thinks brain related. On a good note though my Lamictal is doing a better than average job for me so that a bonus.
Thanks for the support Kayakmom.

Re: Update on my situation

Lori, I am sorry the neuro shot down those ideas too! I agree, POUND those fists!! How about a second opinion? Might be worth pursuing since the GP is thinking brain related but this neuro is not finding it? Sometimes new eyes help!

I know it is frustrating. hang in there!

Re: Update on my situation

Since you are having trouble with your vision, I would ask the doctor to order some Evoked Potential tests before I would do the spinal tap as it is not an invasive procedure and can tell where the eye problems are coming from. Also they have one for nerve conduction, not sure if they can check the face but it is worth asking. The other one is for hearing, I would ask for all of them to be done. Please remember that the doctor is there to SERVE you, ask for tests and insist he give a valid reason for not doing so. You may need to make a stand that this is your quality of life and you want answers or refer you to someone who will get them for you.Don't wait for an appointment call and ask for tests to be set up so that he has the results on next visit.
Best of luck, no forget luck, best of health to you!!!!!
