neurosurgeon wants to do surgery

Well, I saw my neurosurgeon on Monday (2nd visit) he told me he spoke with my neuro and together they went over ALL my test results from UCLA and LOMA LINDA. He wants to do a left temporal lobeectomy, but wants me to be awake during surgery. They are going to place a grid on my brain, stimulate differents areas and see if they can pinpoint the exact place the seizures are coming from. Once they find that, then they are going to test my memory, speech motor skills while stimulating that spot to see if it will be safe to remove that section of the brain.

I will be having surgery the 1st week in May. I am just waiting for a specifice date.

Diana

Cool Re: neurosurgeon wants to do surgery

Sounds like a WADA(?) test. If I were you, if the surgeon want's you to be awake tell him you want a DVD of it all. You will get a ton of people wanting to know about the surgery. Invite them over for a party & pop that DVD in. )

Re: neurosurgeon wants to do surgery

I know of a child who had brain surgery done this way. They implanted the grid and also did the testing. She is doing very well post surgery, no generalized for 6 months, no diastat either!!

Best wishes. Hoping it all goes great for you!

Re: neurosurgeon wants to do surgery

Thank you both for your reply. I will definitely ask for a recording of the surgery if it possible.

Re: neurosurgeon wants to do surgery

My son had surgery done at UCLA in June 2004. He has since had no seizures. I am open to any questions you might have. Would also like the name of your neuro, as my son is moving to Redlands.
