| Epliepsy, Pregnancy, Tegretol, and Folic Acid
I was diagnosed with petit mal seizures when I was 10 but I started having them when I was 7. Basically I would get a feeling of déjà vu, then a fear of someone coming up behind me to hurt me, a blank stare, and when it was over, mild to medium disorientation. I have found that doorways are a trigger, doorstops especially. I have been taking Tegretol 200 mg 3x daily for the past 19 years and it controls my seizures without any noticeable side effects.
After 4 years of marriage my husband and I have been trying to start a family, and last week we got our good news. I am about 5 weeks along and we are so excited. I was already taking a folic acid supplement (800mcg 1x daily) directed to me by my neurologist last year but was surprised to have my ob up it to 800mcg 4x daily along with the prenatal vitamins prescribed. I understand that Tegretol can diminish the amount of folic acid your body absorbs but I just wanted to know if there were any other ladies (or spouses of ladies) who took Tegretol throughout their pregnancies and how they felt about it.
Thanks! Kelly
