Question Breakthrough Seizures? - Epilepsy Message Board

My son has been seizure free (I think) for 7 months. I think I may have seen an absence seizure yesterday. He has both generalized absence and tonic clonic. The abscence presented itself first and the tonic clonic started up after he was placed on meds. Depakote to be exact. Now he's on both depakote and keppra.

If his seizures start again would the little ones or the big ones be more likely to break through? I'm not really sure if he had one or not. We go back to the neuro in November.

Any insight would be helpful. He's spacey enough on the amount of meds he's on. I hate to add more.

I think the big one would break through...at least that is what Tripp's does. He had a SPS last Friday followed by the grandmal one. NO increase in meds for now.

My daughter Brittany has intactable absence with occasional tonic-clonic and the small ones always break through first. She is on Lamictal, Mysoline, and Zarontin with a VNS on rapid cycling. Soon we will be dropping the Mysoline (hyperactivity) and changing the Zarontin to Celontin. Never a dull moment in our house! Good luck.

Thanks for the responses. I'm just going to keep an eye on him. Those darn absence seizures can be so subtle. Before meds he had major eye rolls with them but I realize the meds might be keeping them smaller. Time will tell. I just hate waiting and wondering if he's going to have another TC.
