Balance shot with new meds.... - Epilepsy Message Board

I hope this is just a temporary side effect of the Lyrica, cuz my balance is really messed up. Taking off my shoes is a major project, holding onto walls, and just getting around is a tough go. I've only been on the Lyrica twice a day for a couple of days, and it's been getting worse. My vision is messed up more (need reading glasses - the kind from the dollar store !), but sometimes it's really screwed up. Hope this is just some initial phase of getting used to the stuff.

My 17 year old son started taking Lyrica in addition to 2000 mg Keppra and 600 mg Lamitical. He has had nothing but trouble with Lyrica. He started at first with 50 mg 3 x day. He would become very emotional and cry (Very unlike him) about 3 hours after dosing, So we switched to 25 mg twice a day and the medication is making him very dizzy and his vision is blurred. I'm waiting on the Dr. to call back but I'm not letting him take anymore of this stuff. He's still having alot of CP seizures anyway. He been on this for about 2 weeks. I hope this helps.

I had balance/vision issues with another med. I even FELL a few times. That made me move in with my folks until we found out what the problem was.

I even went to the extreme of BUYING A CANE. A man in his 20's using a cane. but it helped me walk even though I felt toxic like heck. I could keep on my feet. I also noted keeping one eye closed also helped reduce the "spinning" effect.

See if any of those work to reduce effects until you see the doc.

Yeah, I got a cane when home health was coming, but with my other neuro disorder, I just keel over with no warning sometimes, so figure I'd impale myself to the floor if I used the cane ! Don't figure the CSI team would be thrilled with finding me like that. It's a little better after a few days....still can't be sure of my balance, but at least it's not as bad. I have to tolerate it as long as my doc as samples....can't afford the other stuff. I have had to tweek my Tegretol dose a bit since starting the Lyrica (sounds like I'll be singing opera soon if I keep taking it with a name like that), since I was SO tired..... still having the same number of sz, but not as hard.
