Many Simple Partial Seizure Questions

Hi everyone,

I have posted on the Anxiety forum a few days ago about a problem I have been having for the last three years. Here it is:

http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=380537

Does anyone think this might be a form of Simple Partial Seizures?

If these are infact Simple Partial Seizures, does anyone else get them in the patern I describe? In that cyclical fasion?

Also, again, if they are SPS's, how long after getting them do you feel strange? It takes me about 4 days after to completely feel normal again.

and lastly, can everyone descibe breif detail their SPS's?

I appreciate any feedback, thank you.

Re: Many Simple Partial Seizure Questions

It is not uncommon for people with simple partial seizures only to have normal EEG and MRI. Did you have any episodes while the EEG was going on? Have you had a Video EEG or an AMbulatory that lasted a couple of days? These have a better chance of catching what it is if they occur frequently enough.
It is very tricky to figure out since all the things that occur are sensory and internal.

My son has simple partials, used to have them more often. Now he tends toward complex partials and unconsciousness.

The sensory simple partials he had included a sudden stomach ache, sick feeling, confusions, agitation as well as hand tingling. I am not sure if he ever had the deja vu often.

You mention headaches after, did you ever have an intense need to sleep?

Did the neuro feel that these could be simple partials or was he feeling something else was going on?

trial of anti anxiety med (Zoloft, Effexor to name two) might be worth a try. Celexa or Amitriptilan are anti depressents that might be worth a try. Sometimes a neuro will try a trial of a seizure med to see if the symptoms ease, even with a clear EEG. TOpamax and Lamictal have some mood stability effects....

I hope you can get answers!

Re: Many Simple Partial Seizure Questions

I am not for sure what kind of seizures Tripp has...but he will turn his head to the left...sort of space out for a few seconds then repeat over and over...I'm okay" then he is fine and goes about what he was doing...I notice if he is eating or drinking something...it will dribble out his mouth.
He recovers rapidly!! He had 5 of these yesterday...weathe was bad...

Re: Many Simple Partial Seizure Questions

Hmm, well both my Doc and Neuro both suspect a form of Migrane, but I highly dought that.

They have never mentioned SPS's until I mentioned it to them, and they still don't beleive its that.

I think I gotta give a few anxiety meds a try, see what happens.

Re: Many Simple Partial Seizure Questions

John,

I have the EXACT same symptoms (only mine occur only once a day but like clockwork, they are exactly 30 days apart).....

I have been searching for years for an answer and I was finally diagnosed as having simple partial seizures. Interestingly enough, Tegretol used to work for me but is not working anymore....My MRI and EEG were all fine too.....

The only thing that may be slightly different is that I don't know if I quite have deja vu, mine is thoughts that rush into my head and then leave after. They are the same each time but I never remember what they are (if that makes any sense)...I get the stomach upset, the hot face and then I get a headache after, not tired but I do get a headache.

The migraine thing is very interesting because I had two days in a row of these episodes and then the other night I had the worse migraine of my life, I was up most of the night vomiting and my head felt like it was going to explode.

I don't know if this helps you because my doctor seemed reluctant to diagnose me with Simple Partials, there just didn't seem to be any other explanation.
