Partial Complex seizures and speach loss

For those of you who have partial complex seizures, do any of you loose your speach or strat to drool? With mine I drool all over my self to the point where I need to change my shirt sometimes and I can not talk to anyone. I am fully aware of whats going on around me. I can see and hear people, but I can't talk while I am having one of my spells. The most I can do is get a sound or 2 out. Then when it's over I can finally start talking again.

Re: Partial Complex seizures and speach loss

Speech either goes completely, or response time is very slow....I put a sheet in my wallet that requests people ask "yes/no" questions, so I can just nod/shake my head. As I come around more, I sound drunk, then eventually get back to normal. It's embarrassing- when I feel the auras, I get away from people as much as I can- at home it's no big deal since I live alone, but away from home, I want to get 'under cover' fast !!

Re: Partial Complex seizures and speach loss

YES. Mine occur in the speach/fine motor regions. I often would have a seizure and in post ictal could have visual and auditory abilities, but verbal was fowled up. I could say a word but it was NOT the word I wanted for some reason.

I learned to cross my hands open fingers, palm down to indicate I was frustrated. I would shake head yes or no to questions. I could provide answers to ID with my wallet, or medical coverage. but verbal took a while to get back.

Drooling did happen, but it was not often major. I onlt had loss of bladder once due to a seizure.

Frustrating when we can't communicate.

The one time I remember that reallly irked me was when I worked a festival and had handed out sheets of what to do to the heads and others on staff in case of a seizure. I wore 3 indicators that did NOTHING when I had a seizure. The head was suprised that I came back that night to help with teardown after having the mild seizure that they decided I needed to be rushed to the hospital for.

Re: Partial Complex seizures and speach loss

Yes I too lose speech after seiz., sometimes for a few minutes sometimes for a day or 2 depending on the severity of the seiz. If I have a petitmal my speech may be slow and hesitant for a short while but if I have a granmal I may not be able to speak properly for 2 days. I can think what I want to say but I can't get it to come out properly. my husband just gets me a pencil and paper and calls it his quiet time. I have drooled some and have choked a few times also because of excessive salvating.

Re: Partial Complex seizures and speach loss

YES! Tripp does too! He will drool only if he is eating or drinking something..
He can't speak...this last for just a few seconds...about 15 seconds...tops.
He then will repeat "I'm okay" over and over until it has left for good....about another 10 or 15 seconds.... Then he goes about what he was doing...having no problems at all.
