first granmal in 6 months - Epilepsy Message Board

I had my first granmal seizure in 6 months last night so I'm feeling drained and bummed out today. I'm not really surprised considering the stress I've been under, but the timing couldn't have been worse. My husband cut his leg with a chain saw yesterday and had to have several stitches. Last night when I went into seizure (in my sleep) I hit him right in the leg! He said I started seizing about 11:15.I didn't know anything until after midnight and then I didn't recognize my husband or remember what had happened to him. I felt as if I couldn't breathe and took a half hour more to know what was going on.
Does anyone else have this problem after a seiz?

Confusion- yes...takes a while to feel "there". I have complex partials, and even after those, I'm not aware of anything from the time of the aura until I wake up (I sleep for quite a while afterwards, and feel like roadkill for a day or so). I sleep with a dog- she took off one night to sleep in the living room, so don't know what happened. My breathing is said to get very shallow, and I've set off apnea alarms so often at the ER they just turn them off, and keep the oxygen monitor on my finger...if that number is ok, I'm breathing ok !

I feel better today, but I'm still not 100%. Still have that vague, not quite all there feeling but at least I can function.

I guess next time I'll pay attention to the dog. She'd followed me around for 2 days but I had been feeling so good I didn't pay any attention to her.

My other dog used to take off out of the room when I passed out (autonomic disorder- not seizures) EVERY TIME. She'd go flying off the bed like her tail was on fire. Then I'd get up, not connecting the two at the time, and land on my face. I finally figured out what was going on, and if she took off, I'd slow down, and not have so many face to ground impact episodes. Maybe your dog could sense something you couldn't???

I have heard about dogs being able to sense seizures coming on by smelling something differerent on a persons' breath. Delta (my dog) will come up to me every few days and sniff around my face,so maybe there's some truth to that. Most of the time she'll just sniff then go play, but once in a while like the other day she'll start to follow me where ever I go and not stop till I sit down. 90% of the time when she does that I have a seizure! I guess she's earning her kibble! :}
