I was on as much as 700 mg/day (all at bedtime because of the half life) for years (sometimes less, but mostly high doses). It started messing with my liver enzymes, so had to go off of it. It did well with seizure control, but my labwork was horirible.

That depends on the patient for how well your medication works.

Dilantin has been around and works in a lot of cases.

It's hard to say if it's your regular med or the one a patient may take "when needed" that is more effective.

I take 300mg/day of dilantin to control GMs.I dont get auras with my epilepsy-I get myclonic jerks around "that time of the month" that would lead to a GM.So I take another 100mg starting a couple days before that time alternating days in between with my regular 300mg dose.That stops the jerks from occuring.I dont know how this would work for auras but it sounds like the amount your taking now-300mg? is stopping the GMs from your brief history given.sounds like you had GMs whenever you go below that level.
sorry I can't help with the auras-it's something I don't experience.If you try
100mg more (since your doc said it was ok)it might make you more tired and I would definately continue getting the lab work done.
