I haven't been around the boards in a little while, but I thought I'd drop in and let you guys know that the birth control pills are helping my Epilepsy. For those who don't remember me, here's a brief history: I've been having auras/complex partial seizures for about 12 years now. About 6 years ago, I had a GM seizure and started meds. I'm now on Tegretol and Keppra. I'm on very high doses of each, but I was still gettting a lot of auras around the time when I got my period, and also around the ovulation time of the month. Finally, I asked my doctor if birth control pills would even out my hormones and stop my seizures. He said I could go ahead and try it. And now I'm on my 4th month of taking them, and they're working really well. The amount of complex partial seizures I'm getting is much less, and when I do get them, they are less severe and don't last very long at all (only a few minutes as opposed to a few hours sometimes before). It took me about 3 months before they started working, so I'm hoping I will keep improving and eventually not have any more seizures at all!
So I just wanted to let you guys know, so that maybe other women with epilepsy that coincides with their monthly cycle can try birth control pills in addition to their anti-seizure meds.
