new drugs for generalized seizures
My son has a history of seizures which include myoclonic jerks and generalized grand mal seizures. His seizures have been reasonably well controlled with dilantin/lamictal, but we are concerned about long term cumulative effects of dilantin. Neurologist is suggesting trials of one of the newer drugs Keppra(levetiracetam), Trileptal (oxcarbazepine) or Zonegran (zonisamide) to slowly replace dilantin. Does anyone have experience with these drugs in controlling generalized seizures? (I realize they are mostly recommended as an add-on drug for partial complex seizures). Thanks for any information. 4
