symptoms from taking lamictal for seizures - Epilepsy Message Board

i am 16 years old and i have had one seizure in march of 2002. my neuroligist suggested that i take lamitcal b/c the other medicine may have a chance to cause birth defects. i didn't want to take that risk so i took lamitcal. well since i have been taking it i have seen major changes and so have my family and friends...some of the changes they see is anger....i always had an anger problem but the medicine is making it way worse.... another symptom is that i am alot more sensitive to stuff and i can't handle the fighting and yelling between my family members i mean its not bad arguing but still it stresses me out and i can't take it where as before i was taking lamitcal i could.....another symptom i am having is that i am going into a deep depression....and i want to go see a phyciatrist but i don't want to tell my family members. i also have a dry mouth and it seems that i am having more zoning out time...more than what i had before i was taking this.... and everytime i open and close my eyes they burn and it just started when i was taking this medicine...this is the 5th week i have been taking it and i am going to the doctors tomorrow so i am going to tell her all of my symptoms...

amanda33, I went through the anger, I thought it was the meds but it was me angry about the seziors.I blamed everybody around me. It took me a while to get over and realize it was me feeling sorry about my self .Now I have gotten over the bad feelings my temper and argueing has gotten better. What we have makes a big change in our lives a big shock to us, our lives are turned inside out. We have to be strong and get over the shock and live on. There is a light at the end of the tunel,as far as lamictal Im on it too I have the dry mouth and burning eyes. you need to tell your doc. about everything you feel and worry about they should know every thing that is going on with you so they can help you. be stong and things will get better. May take a while but it will get better.

I am also 16 and taking lamital. My doctor put me on some kind of depression medicine for my anger,mood swings. I haven't had a seizure in 2 years. I can't afford to have any more. I won't be able to drive if i have any.

Hey Amanda! I am also a 16 year old cheerleader and I am taking lamictal, I was diagnosed with Epilepsy in December but I have never had a real seisure, just the arm jerks. I haven't had the side effects that you've had but I have been having anxiety attacks, I don't know if its from the lamictal or if im just making myself crazy! I hope that you start feeling better!
