Unhappy do I really need medication??

Hello-

I am new to this web site and need all the help I can get. I have only had one sezuire (in December) but I have had symptoms which I understand could be some kind of aura or sezuire. My memory is horrible (I am 29), I have had a few episodes of paranoia which my therapist thinks it out of character for me, I have forever been a "daydreammer" and can just disassocite at a moments notice. All of my eegs and MRI's are normal. I guess I don't want to believe there is something wrong. I have not responded well to medication. In fact in my mind I think one the medications I was taking caused the original sezuire. Am I in complete denial? Do I need to take meds? Could this just be stess related? I really need some answers. I am very frustrated and confused by this whole thing. And my doctors can tell me anything for sure. Thank you to any one who can give me some feedback.

Welcome,
I wish I could reassure you that all is well.

The truth is that much is not known about epilepsy in general, though if you stay with this message board and your neurologist there will be some insights into what is wrong.

Stress and loss of sleep can lead into seizures, but may not be the cause.

Other than problems in the brain....a seizure is a sign of misfiring of electrical impulses in the brain, like a train derailment...there can also be heart related problems causing problems with oxygen being delivered to the brain.

Work with you specialist and consider yourself 50% of the cure, as you need to observe yourself in order to feed into your medical visits enough info to give a clear picture of what is happening.

We have been dealing with our daughter's seizures for 23 yrs., but she was born with brain damage so we feel we have a reason behind them...our job now is to try and contain them as much as possible....Not exactly the same as your situation.

Wish you luck.
Marilyn

have you had a CAT scan or an ekg? those might be helpful.
At 12 yrs. old I had my 1st seizure, my parents thought I was doing drugs and had an overdose reaction. Through out that same night I had 4 more grand mal seizures, (they watched me sleep), and thought maybe I was having a stroke. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif They took me to the E.R., found out I was having seizures. I was in a car wreck with my mom and went through the front window, they thought the impact of the hit is what brought mine on, or it could have been my age with puberty sneeking up on me. As an adult I went to have brain surgery to have it removed, I had a 5% chance of coming out normal, because of were the mass was on my brain. I dint have it done.
As I got older, my test started showing nothing, no mass on my brain. My DR, has told me I now have a seizure disorder...meaning I am bringing most of my seizure on myself due to stress and anger. Because I had them as a child, I learned how to control my stress & anger by seizureing, as an adult I have to learn how to release my stress and anger other ways to not seizure. It is weird how powerful our mind is, and we dont realize it. Good luck with your situation and God bless.
