I year ago I re-married. My husband knew I had seizures, but never saw one. His kids had no idea what they were. They do now-and look in amazement
My kids have watched, and helped for 13,12 & 10 yrs. (they have been my strength when I had none left)
When my husband prays for me,he prays they go away. He is still in the learning stages on what to do...but getting better.
When I pray for myself, I pray that I am protected by angels.
I sometimes believe we that have epilepsy, have it for a reason. More + reasons then -. There are days that its a pain, but so was changing dirty diaphers http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bang.gif
I would like to hear (read) if any of you think this too, and maybe explain why.
Thanks
Heather

Welcome to healthboards hon... I really don't think it's a gift, I think each of us are a gift as our own self.. but the seizures anyone sure could do without. I have pulled my arms outta joint so many times I have no rotator cups and steel holding one arm in after a 12 hour surgery on it. I had a seizure in surgery so bad they almost lost me (scarey thought) I have broken my nose. had more stitches, and broken teeth then most people have in a lifetime. I don't really think it's a gift.. LOL I could do without that. But as individuals we are all certainly a gift.
Hugs
Koko
If you are not on meds hon you might want to find a neuro close to you if you are on meds I missread
Koko,
Thanks for responding. I have seen many neurologist for 20 yrs. I have been put on many types of medication. I can relate to all the problems you have had due to your seizures. I developed cancer from being on a med. to long, and have had seizures before, during and after my c-section births,my thyroid surgery,my hysterectomy,my tubal, the removal of tumors, dental work, not to mention the broken bones and extreme bruises, like yours.
I need this board,to see I am not alone. I finally found a place were Im not the only one that goes through 'weird' things. Thanks again. Heather

Heather,
I believe you are right, and that epilepsy can be a blessing, although it may not always seem that way. I have a good job as a journalist andrank in the top 0.1 percentile for verbal abilities in IQ scores. The reason? I have had epilepsy since I was born, and had incredible scarring on my right temporal lobe, forcing my left temporal lobe (which controls verbal skills) to compensate. My left hippocampus is 100 per cent larger than normal, and I have written two novels. People with scarring on the left side may become great musicians or artists.
As there is often a genetic component to epilepsy, you must wonder why such a condition is passed on through the generations if it does not give some type of selective advantage.
To some it can be a blessing to it may not or they just don't see how... the question that was posted was one of those types that you really got and sit and think on it. Heather it was a good question though and sometimes you do need to stop and think about it..
