drug info
hi everybody,
just thought you might be interested in this...
Since the earliest times, people have been seeking effective drugs for epilepsy, and through the ages such cures as powdered human skull vultures blood, and mistletoe have all been tried. The first effective therapy, however was reported in 1857 by sir charles locock,an obstetrition, who had an interest in epilepsy, because of the mistaken idea, common at that time, that in some women epilepsy came from their wombs. The drug he used was potassium bromide, which was the most effective therapy until 1912 when pheno-barbitone was introduced. The main problem with bromides are their unaceptable side effects. In fact the play-off of side effects against the effectiveness of an antiepilectic drug is still at the heart of antiepilectic drug treatment.
Come a long way haven't we?
