Question Head injuries, headaches

Hi, everyone. Thanks for all your replies. The other morning, I awoke with a really bad pain in the back of my head, right at the base of my skull. It feels more like a bruise than a muscle strain, and it's worse today. Ibuprofen won't help. Now of course, I don't remember hitting my head, but this wouldn't be the first time I woke up with an injury. My question is this: What pain relievers do you all use in these situations, and how long does it take for the pain to go away? I live alone so I have no one to absolutely tell me what I am doing at night or help keep me safe from injury. Sometimes I "sleep funny" and pull a muscle in my neck, but this feels different -- almost as bad as when I was rear-ended in a car accident two years ago. Except the pain was on the other side of my skull and neck. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi,
I have no idea what is causing your pain, but I think you really need to have it checked by a Doctor. You really don't want to ignore something that mey be brain related! Please call for help, and let us know how you make out. Kathy

Hello. Today I saw my epileptologist for the first time and there are more tests ahead. Anyway, he wasn't sure whether I had whacked my head but pressing on the sore area causes pain in other parts of my head. So he prescribed Darvocet for the pain for now, since I am allergic to codeine and codeine-containing products. I suppose I should have had someone evaluate the skull pain on its own, but I had a lot to do today and I wasn't about to burden my driver (a friend's parent) with another visit to the doctor's office. I will see how the pain is (it's Thursday night now) and evaluate it in the morning. It was pretty bad today. We will see. Thanks everyone.

Well, the Darvocet knocked the pain out in one shot. Now I have a bottle of pills I won't be using. I guess they will be there if I injure myself again at night. I always wonder how my dog reacts during these times; he can be a heavy sleeper, so maybe he doesn't even know. I suppose the seizures only last a minute or two anyway. Thanks.

There are security type video cameras you can get to tape yourself sleeping. If you wake up sore you could review the tape and show it to your doctor if you see a siezure. They also make them as baby monitors so you can find them lots of places. SOme are not too expensive. Save the Darvocet for the next bad hurt. Do not take it too often as it can be habit forming.(I took it as a teen when I had migraines and got to using it too much)

Hope the pain does not come back. Sleep easy...
