Post Dogs For Epileptics

I was wondering if anyone out there had dog trained to sense seizures. I sometimes go more than a year or more between events and was wondering if one would work for me. From what I have read they are trained with people who have many a day. The dogs are trained with a reward system. If I don't have a siezure for a year would the dog still remember and warn me?? Even though I might end up with a nice dog it might forget everything. I could just go to the pound and get one for free if that were the case. Thanks much!!
