Red face Hyperventilation for FIVE minutes during EEG - crazy!

Hey everyone...
I had an EEG yesterday (first one in 13 years - things have changed!) Anyways, they made me hyperventilate for FIVE minutes....that seems so execsive! I mean, anyone would either pass out or have a seizure after that much time. Anyways, I did have a seizure (absence) and lost track of the last three minutes, or else I passed out...but either way. I was sweating and shaking and it really scared me.

Is this standard? I don't think it's neccisary!

Love
Kaitie

Okay - after doing some research: apparently absence seizures are induced by hyperventilation....

Katie,
I have a tendency to agree with the amount of time it takes for the hyperventalation thing,.frankly I think I know people without epilepsy that this particular excersise would give a siezure...When I did it, many years ago, they could not get me to seize...I felt kind of like I had beat it..but the test showed different...
I went through a vigours excersize program a few years ago, and was running 6 miles a day..(I am not a runner) I never had a seizure, but frankly many times wished that I would so I could just sleep...
