Post do u go to the hospital everytime uhave a seizure?

do u go to the hospital when u have a seizure?

do u go in to the doctors to get your levels checked when u have a seizure?

how often do u get your levels checked?

I dont go to the hospital unless someone in public calls 911. my husband knows i dont like going to ER, so we work out the afteraffects by ourselfs. I just found out that its a good idea to get your levels checked when u have a seizure. and becaues i am still dealing alot w/ seizures, i get them checked alot when I am in ER.

I only go if it lasts more than 3 minutes- on average my TC's are about 30-60 seconds with a post-ictal of a few hours (i usually sleep for that a puke a little) if it's really bad, my b/f is equipped with rectal diazapem that my neuro gave him to give me to stop it so we can avoid any trips to the ER before it goes into status. he usually does that if i have back to back with short conscious in between

I've never been to the ER (I've not had a grand-mal yet) but I was rushed to my family doc about a month ago. I had several petit-mals and had no idea where I was so my hubby came and picked me up from work (my manager called him) and rushed me to my doc where I had another petit-mal. I couldn't believe how out of it I was. Also I was really ill and dizzy..was the worst I had ever felt before.

Take care!

Nic

When I used to have grand mals in elementary school my teachers would call the ambulance each and every time (which was farely often) and they'd rush me to the hospital even though it was a standard grand mal (roughly 10 minutes long - I had REAL LONG ONES - but weren't status).

Finally my mom wrote a letter and came into the school and said "DO NOT CALL AN AMBULANCE - call me and I'll take her home...she is fine - this is standard" basically the school was terrified of me and didn't know what to do but my mom explained everything and from then on I went home instead (which felt so much better).

Now I have absence seizures and I've never been to the hospital because of it - almost once when I was first with my boyfriend because he didn't know what was going on....

It's so much more comfortable in bed at home though - thats what I think...unless it's something different than usual - then you should go.

Love Kaitie
