I would always get a pressure in my head and a funny off smell right before a seizure hit. The seizure would wake me from my sleep enough for me to realize that I was having one due to the pressure and smell. Then I would have the seizure and fall right back asleep. However, I would realize I had one when I woke up. That was with complex partial seizures. With grand malls they always left me with a severe headache after the siezure was over that I knew I had had one. Also bit my toungue through. Yuk!

Hello,
I always know that I've had a seizure in my sleep if I bite my tongue, lip, or the inside of my cheek. Feel around the inside of your mouth when you wake up to see if you feel a cut or sore.

I realize that your husband was sleeping and you didn't want to bother him. If you continue to think and see symptoms of seizures during the night, especially when you are with your children, problem solve this situation and see if you can work to make it safer for you and your children.

I used to have a baby monitor on in my son's room so that if I heard him having a seizure, I would be there immediately. I was also a light sleeper. In your situation, you could have a monitor hooked up so that your husband could hear things if you were having trouble. I could hear my son breathe through the monitor.

If your children are awake and old enough to walk into your bedroom and awaken your husband, that would also be a way to ensure that the family works together so that safety and immediate attendance can be accomplished. Even though your children are young, it is never too late to teach them how to be a help for their parents. This will not hurt them or put too much responsibility onto them, because an adult will be in the house that they can reach immediately.
