Well how did your meeting go? I hope all went well for you! I know that those things can be very draining! I thought about you all day, and couldn't wait to get on here and see how it went!! take care!

Hi Lindy,
I was so happy to see your post! Everything went very well and I didn't even have to beg. I can't remember her official title, and I've got everything packed up for the VEEG tomorrow, but I believe she was the "program specialist" for the district. She was very supportive and is putting in for an aide right away. Gavin's teacher was there and stressed that he did not like any help to be "obvious", so they will try to be sensitive to that. He is becoming more and more aware that things are just more difficult for him than other kids, and he doesn't like it one bit! Getting into some mood shifts, anger issues we have never seen from him before. Until we figure out whats actually going on with him, that may get worse before it gets better.

Well, I'm now officially a nervous wreak for the VEEG tomorrow. I just don't even know what to hope for. I mean jeez, should I pray for some seizures? At least then I can say "see, I knew something was going on!" But if it shows nothing, I just don't know what to think. I blame his difficulties on the epilepsy. I'll let you know how it goes. Often times the tech will give information, even though I won't have a real report for quite a while. Isn't your daughter's VEEG next month?

It's late, I'm going to TRY to get some sleep! Thanks again for thinking about us.

Great that you are getting an aide in the classroom. I work one on one with a down's syndrome child right now, and we make sure that he isn't the only one I work with. I am there more to support the teacher. I hope his teacher and aide treat it like that too!!

In California there is a major push here with inclusion students, and we have seminars on this. There is a phrase they use here ALOT....it is

HOVER NOT SMOTHER. That means to stay close in case the child needs you, but don't stand over them, do their work for them, and take over. The goal is to learn independence. So good luck in your endeavor!
