Great that you are getting an aide in the classroom. I work one on one with a down's syndrome child right now, and we make sure that he isn't the only one I work with. I am there more to support the teacher. I hope his teacher and aide treat it like that too!!
In California there is a major push here with inclusion students, and we have seminars on this. There is a phrase they use here ALOT....it is
HOVER NOT SMOTHER. That means to stay close in case the child needs you, but don't stand over them, do their work for them, and take over. The goal is to learn independence. So good luck in your endeavor!
