Post iep...504....help from your childs school

WE HAVE SENT ALL THE NECESSARY (I THOUGHT) FORMS FROM THE DOCTOR TO LET THE TEACHER/SCHOOL KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IS GOING ON THE "E" IN PEDDY'S LIFE. ONLY TO GET ANOTHER NOTE FROM THE TEACHERS AIDE TODAY. THIS NOTE SAID HE WAS STILL ACTIVE AND THAT IT SEEMS LIKE IT IS THE MEDICINE IS SLOWLY TAKING AFFECT. MY GOD!!!!
DO THESE PEOPLE HAVE A HEART?????? PEDDY TOLD US THAT THE LAST TIME THEY SENT HIM TO THE OFFICE A SECURITY GUARD WAS SENT IN TO TALK TO HIM ABOUT HIS BEHAVIOR.
WHAT?????
I AM READY TO GO THAT SCHOOL AND LET THEM KNOW HOW I FEEL, BUT YOU KNOW HOW GRANDPARENTS ARE. WHEN I HEARD MY DAUGHTER CRYING OVER THE PHONE TONIGHT I WAS READY TO CALL THE GOVERNOR.
WHAT IS HE INTITALED TO???IS THERE A WEB SITE I CAN REFER TO FOR INFO ON THIS. IEP AND 504 NOT MEAN SQUAT TO ME.
I AM SORRY ABOUT MY ATTITUDE TONIGHT BUT I JUST HAD TO VENT MY FRUSTRATION IN HOPES OF HEARING FROM MY "E" FRIENDS.

I certainly know how you are feeling. I had sent a letter and discussed with the counsellor, who was going to talk to the teachers, and of course it was not taken any further. Things have settled down now at the school after a seizure in the middle of PE in which they were all freaked out and didn't know what to do (of course). They are all aware now, a letter has been issued to each teacher and they have put a picture of Jon in the staff bulletin room with a note of his condition and of some of the other special needs kids. These teachers have to be aware. We are also going to get a medic alert bracelet. You may need to make the teachers aware that it will take time for the meds to level off and that this is an ongoing process. Hang in there Nanner - it gets frustrating but you're on the right track with it. Stay strong.

Cool

Nanner,
Will you be my son's grandma? Just joking of course, but I have to tell you, you are wonderful and it is so evident how much you love your grandson! It is a frustrating, painful, overwhelming, process with many different answers depending on any number of variables. Hang in there for him and for your daughter. You are doing everything in your power to find the right answers. Keep doing that! It could and will most likely be, a long process. It's hard not to get discouraged. We are still full of questions and it's been 3 1/2 yrs. I just wanted to tell you, I have been so touched by your posts. You are his grandma for a reason! In spite of everything, he and your daughter are so blessed to have you in their lives. Keep doing what you are doing. Sorry I have no "words of wisdom" here. I just wanted you to know I am so humbled by how much you want to help your grandson. Thank you for being on this board.
Cris

I have stopped and re-started this post at least three times now. I don't have any wisdom to pass to you, yet I couldn't not respond. I'm so sorry he has to go thru all this, no its not fair. I can't believe they had him talk to a security guard, my goodness!

I have no clue what the 504 and IEP are, but they have to stand for something. Have you tried searching goggle? Or an epilepsy site? Thats the best I could think of. Try those and let me know if they helped, if not, someone on here should know somewhere. You take care sweetie and give that grandson of yours a hug from all of us.

Lisa

I am sorry I don't have any info for you, just wanted to reply to let you know how bad I feel for you and your grandson, that is terrible the way his school is behaving.

I don't know if it would help any, but you might check the epilepsy foundation's website to see if they could guide you in any direction as to where to go:

Hope that helps a little!

Amy
