Lamictal withdrawl - Epilepsy Message Board

Hi everyone!
I have been on Lamictal since May. My doc recently increased my levels to 150mg twice a day and I got "the rash" so I had to stop the Lamictal suddenly. It has been less than a week. He has started me on low doses of Topomax (25 mg at night for three nights and then one in the am, and building slowly). Has anyone come off Lamictal quickly? I feel really horrible. Dizzy, confused, in a fog - just really out of it. I get exhausted walking to the mailbox! I just want to make sure this is from coming off the Lamictal and not from the Topomax. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks! Jaclyn

I would think that all of that is from the Topomax. When you start any new ASD you get those same feelings. I suddenly stopped a med and I felt GREAT!! I had 2 GM seizures a few days later but I felt good for a while.

When I start ANY new med, that is exactly how I feel.

I hope this helped and good luck to you. Hold on, it tends to go away in a week or two after the increase. I will be praying for you.

Hi,

My doctor had me on lamictal and I developed a rash also, he told me to taper down slowy, I didn't experience any side effects.

When I started topamax, I felt very tired for the first couple weeks, then it went away and I was fine.

My doctor increased the tompamax by 25mgs per week.

I've been taking lamictal for about a year now for complex partial seizures. I think you said you were on 150mg 2x a day? That's what I'm taking too. A week or so ago I ran out of this med because i thought i had a refill but didn't. I was only off it for about two days and on the third day I woke up and i was a total disaster. I felt so ill, dizzy, light headed, nauseus, headache, etc. and i had a seizure. So although in your case it may be the topamax, I think it's definitely possible too that it could be going off the lamictal. I sure hope you feel better soon!
