Hello,

I was very excited to find this board, this is my first post. My 58 year old mother was diagnosed with Epilepsy in the late 50's - she took Phenobarbitol and Dilantin for over 40 years, which controlled her seizures fairly well, she went as long as 10 years without a GM siezure. About a year ago, she started having a lot of "spells" as we called them, for lack of a better term. She finally went to a neurologist who after administering an EEG said she had "typical Depakote seizures" and changed her medication. She hadn't seen a neurologist since the 50's and was afraid to change her Dilantin/Phenobarbitol combo, as it was working fairly well - until recently. A doctor had once told her, the epilepsy could go away or get worse with menopause - we always hoped it would get less severe, but unfortunately not.

A month ago, my father was transferred to San Antonio, Texas - the Depakote doesn't seem to be making any headway with the small seizures, absence seizures - he called them. She also can't find a job, especially, since she has had to stop driving and seems "out of it" all the time.

We were wondering about Social Security Disability and finding a good Dr. in San Antonio, anyone know any good Epilepsy Neurologists in S.A.?

My father and I don't know what to do, her quality of life has changed drastically in the last few months, in the mall parking lot, she walked right into a wall.
