worried mom - newborn convulsing? - Epilepsy Message Board

Hi... our baby boy just turned one month old today. I've been noticing that once in awhile, once or twice a day, his whole body will convulse/twitch about 5 times and sometimes his eyes will roll back. I'm trying to find any information about what might be causing this. Thanks for any info. ~ Holly
P.S. He has never been shaken.

Hi,
I would have your baby checked by a Neurologist as soon as possible. If he/she isn't having seizures or convulsions there is definitely something going on. This is a good place to get support and some information. My guess is that most of the members of this board will give you the same advice. Put your mind at ease....hopefully it's nothing, but better to be safe than sorry.Good luck. Please keep us posted. Kathy

Thank you! I posted this same message at the Children's Health board, and found some other moms noticing the same thing with their babies. It might be Sandifer ('s) Syndrome. ~ Holly

Hi, I never heard of that syndrome. See....it really is helpful to post questions and concerns on these boards. What one person is unaware of another is an expert on. I consider myself so blessed to have found this board! Have a wonderful weekend, and good luck with your baby. Kathy

I have 3 children and two of mine did this. I was told it has something to do with their underdeveloped nervous systems. They would twitch terribly in their sleep. They stopped doing it by the time they were about 4 weeks old. I know ALOT of people who's babies did this so I wouldn't worry too much.
