Anyone having problems with Trileptol? - Epilepsy Message Board

My Dr change my prescript this past May from Tegretol XR to Trileptal and I am wondering if anyone is taking it and if they are having any problems. Thanks!

Hi Jan,

My son Jake has been on it since April. He's 20 mths so not real sure how it makes him "Feel". But, I can tell you that he has dropped for daily seizures to clusters every 2 weeks or so. They are lighter and don't seem to leave him so dained as as before.

One thing that the family noticed at the on set was increased aggression (can't really say it was anger), but in an adult it could come out that way. He was just worked up for the first few days. This happened again to a lesser degree each time his dosage has been increased. He would also get really scared when we would go to lay him down for a diaper change. So you might be aware of a sense of vertago (sp). This only happened at the very beginning. This didn't last but a week or 2 and he seems to feel better now then he has in months.

I began Trileptal about a year ago a very low dosage and am now up to 900 mg, twice a day due to an increase of my sz. I started these so call sz. in the form of laughing hysterically in my sleep. My husband would try to wake me up and I wouldnt nor would I remember. These so called sz. progressed to the day and again, I would't remember them. Now my sz. begin with an auro of a dejau feeling, then a hysterial laughing, then a confused-like feeling. I have these about once a week, of which I record. This may be an improvement because at least I know when I have them.

Hi There:

I was taking trileptal 300mg a day for about 6 months I had problem with the liver level and big stomach problem that I had to go the hospital for so my doctor took off of then. My stomach great since then.

I had major diarrhea and some anxiety attacks at first, but those disappeared within 3-4 weeks. Dizziness lasted about two months. Since then it's just been trouble sleeping. My seizures have increased while on Trileptal (I don't know whether it's the drug directly, the loss of sleep, or some other reason), so just today my doctor put me on Depakote. We'll see...
