I'm new to this forum, and have a couple of questions. Sorry if this is repeated, I tried looking for something regarding this and didn't see it

My 5yo daughter will be going to Ark. Children's Hospital Neurologist in the coming weeks. Her OT thinks she may have "silent seizures" of Childhood Abscence Epilepsy (CAE). It would be a relief to get a real diagnosis, but at the same time it is a bit scary.

My question is - what if she doesn't have a "silent seizure" during her sleep study? Will they still be able to detect if she has this, or must a seizure actually happen? It is going to be an overnight study, but that is about all I know at this point. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks - Jennifer

My 5 yr old son was diagnosed with Rolandic Epilepsy (sleep seizures) during a 24 hr EEG and he did not have any visible seizures during testing. Therefore, I would say your child does not have to have a seizure to make a diagnosis. In our case, the EEG showed centrotemporal spikes (unusual brain activity) which is indicative of Rolandic Epilepsy.

Brittni: Abnormal brain activity can show on an eeg without the occurence of a seizure.

Hi My Son Has Been Having Absence Siezures For 4 Yrs Now Along With Other Siezures And He Has Never Had One During An Eeg But The Docs Could Tell
