Temporal Lobe Issues..need help. - Epilepsy Message Board

Hi,

I happened to notice your post and thought maybe you could describe your symptoms. I've been extremely ill for the past year and after countless tests, it's narrowed down to either Lyme Disease or some type of autoimmune disorder (probably Lupus).

After having severe convulsions that would last for hours, they sent me in for an EEG. It came back w/ "Rhythmic Mid Temporal Discharge". My main symptoms are:

Short term memory loss (I'll forget having a conversation and will have the same one over again. It's very confusing to the person I'm having the conversation with.)

Hearing loss and occasionally things not tasting "right".

Delayed reactions. It takes me a few seconds longer for my brain to process information..i.e. identifying common everyday objects, discerning what people are saying.

Not knowing where I'm at or what I'm doing (typically happens when driving).

Horrible headaches, vertigo, nausea

Extreme anxiety. Sometimes feeling like I don't know who I am...or that everything around me is "surreal".

Mood swings. Moments of extreme anger or euphoria caused by trivial circumstances. (maybe the mood swings are from stress?)

I have a ton of other symptoms but they are related more to arthritis and autoimmune problems. I'm hoping you might be able to tell me what your symptoms are or see if you know anything about Rhythmic Mid Temporal Discharge. All my neurologist said was that they really don't know what it "is" but Lee Harvey Oswald had it...."great" I thought, "that makes me feel better".

I wish I had some answers for you but I don't. I have auto immune problems & was also diagnosed with temporal lobe seizures. I took Neurontin for several years, got better & now have come off it. I am now experiencing some of what you describe. I just "zone" out for a min & when I come to myself I feel disoriented. I know where I am & who I am but I feel strange. I usually have a headache after, not as bad as a migraine but a one sided headache. Do find this to be frightening to you? I try to stay calm but I can't help but be uneasy. I always wonder if it's a stroke. sorry I can't help but I wish you the best.

I had wondered at first if I was just under immense stress and that was causing the problems. My MRI and CT scan were normal so maybe that was just it. I know my dr is testing me for Lupus and when people are having a bad Lupus flare up, they can get disoriented and goofy. Normally my "disorientation" only lasts for a few seconds so before my adrenaline kicks in, I'm back to "normal".

Thanks for your words of encouragement. I'm trusting God that He'll work it out for me.
