Switching Drs

Just found out today that My Doc for 5 years is changing to the other location, and not seeing seizure patients as of this spring. I had to quickly schedual an appointment with him before he left the clinic so I could get booked, as well get HIS opinion for who I should be switched over to.

Have some of you had similar situations?? You found a *great* Doc and then they either retire, or move?

I tried digging a little bit online but couldn't find much for the other Docs at the clinic. (Mind you I was already stressed out, did taxes today and was dealing with vacation and the specifics of it.) Needless to say I didn't want to put a larger strain on me.

I thought finding out from my Doc would be the best for his recomendation.

Re: Switching Drs

Boy I can relate! In one month my primary care physician and obgyn retired! I was starting to get a complex! Not only that...my dog's vet sold his practise! ha ha!

My neuro. didn't leave, I "fired" him. But I think a good start for you would be to ask your current doc for a recommendation. When I knew it was time for a change, I opted to seek out a neuro. affiliated with a major university as since they are a teaching institution, I had heard that they tend to "dig more" when it comes to diagnosising patients. (I chose Duke Medical Ctr.) But I'm lucky, I have Duke and UNC all within an hour and a half from me. Do you have any major medical universities nearby? Just a thought.

Good luck in your search! I hope you find someone just as good as your current doc!

Re: Switching Drs

Oil anybody? (sorry, I watched channel 5 News down by you; I DO like Bill and his music). No the campus near me is "part" of the state college group, but SMALL, no sizeable medical division like the one in the metro I went to for my eye problems. In the metro they have sizeable clinics and equiptment/labs on the college.

Not having a way to the Cities other than Bus Lines (not as many routes as before) does limit me. There IS another "satalite" clinic up here, main clinic that most likely I'd have to go to (from that clinic) is in the cities :/ . As you can tell I somewhat know whats up here. Only part I have not checked is the hospital, and I don't know WHO is there (for seizure patients to see). If it's like my past experience at a hospital neurology clinic I would like to stay away. I know thats judging in advance, but I take caution when not knowing.

It does bum you out when how you first MET the Dr it took only 5 minutes to convince me that I *wanted* the Doc. I'm glad I went with that gut feeling back then.

Re: Switching Drs

It's not fun when you lose a Dr you like! I've had 4 Dr in the past 6 years with the clinic I'm with-that's one of the bad things that happen when working with a learning hospital! My current Dr is 2 years. Travis-talk with him -ask him about who will be replacing him-or ask him to recommend someone. Enjoying this weather? I hear you're sending another storm over the Great Lakes!!! take care-cherie

Re: Switching Drs

Travis,
The only neurologist I saw here.... (except the one who made the diagnosis...in St. Cloud...!!!)...retired. He gave me a list of the others at the clinic. Duluth is becoming quite a medical center...3 big hospitals...I chose the only female in the group. I have been seeing her for about a year of so and am so happy with the relationship we have now.

When I was in your town about 10 years ago...I became very sick and had several seizures...they were partial seizures and my behavior was very odd. I was brought to the hospital there and many of the doctors were a bit baffled. A very sweet neurologist was called in...made a diagnosis...and spent a lot of time with me. I don't know his very loooong name...I think I have it on a card somewhere. He was Indian.

Good luck in your search.

Lamac
