Unhappy Just home from hospital- don't ever sz on CT table :)

I've been dealing with severe headaches for a couple of months now (like daily, no relief sorts- not the occasional migraine- which are horrible, or other severe headache), and finally couldn't take it, so doc's office sent me to ER.

OK. So I'm there and get sent for a CT- reasonable....then I seized when I was coming out of the machine, and again at some point- so 4 1/2 days later, I'm home again. Lots of seizures there (stress, bad sleep, pain), including nocturnal ones with incontinence (horrifiying- at least at home, the dog isn't going to care). I'm guessing 13-15 seizures in 4 1/2 days. I"d have the hit by a truck feeling, and more headaches.

They did get a neurologist to see me (on Medicaid that's been a luxury I haven't had), who reviewed my meds, did increase the Tegretol, and add some doxepin to help with the sensation/perception of the body to pain (fine with me- doesn't have to be fancy). Next week, due to disability, I'll be on Medicare (more than 20 years before I should), so will have that, a 'supplement' more like regular insurance, and a drug plan, with generics being free, and brand being 30/month. It's like I'm almost human again.

I'm afraid to sleep without "incontinence reinforcements" until all of this settles down, which is half stupid, but I was pretty horrified.

It'll be good to be in my own bed.

Re: Just home from hospital- don't ever sz on CT table :)

Ouch, good to hear you are comming back out. I don't think I have ever had that densly packed of a group of seizures. Hope you can sleep it off for a few days and relax/recover with some DVDs.

Watch what "plan" under D you agree to. I looked them over and found one that fit me pretty well for the medication ONLY catagory when they were nearly forcing us to take a plan (we could opt out, but as usual it was government speak confussing). I had to make sure my meds were covered first of all, and that I wouldn't be switched with meds to save a few cents. No monthly charge for the plan, 3$ co pay for brand (went up this year by a dime I think) generics are either none or $1, not sure. Also verify what pharmacies you can use before accepting one.

I managed to get County to pick up the Medicare annual charge so I don't pay that end of it. With State/County they also pick up the slack in the "gap zone" for med coverage. In 4 months I am at "catastrophic" (in costs) already and have no additional copays the rest of the year for meds on my Part D plan (due to maxing out). Looking at how much it cost last year, the total costs of my meds could have bought a new car!

Re: Just home from hospital- don't ever sz on CT table :)

I"m lucky with the Plan D I have- I asked about what meds were covered before I signed up, and also have the list (like 50 pages) printed out from their website, so if I go to the doc for something new, I have the list. The monthly premium isn't too bad considering I'm on a lot of meds. They don't cover benzodiazepines, so will still get them from the patient assistance place that deals only with generics (with benzos, I'm fine with generics). Generics will be free (and most of mine, if not all, are generics), and brand on the preferred list are 30.00- which is still good if it's one of the newer meds. I was pleased with it. The rep they had was really good about going through everything, and they sent a ton of written material, as did the private fee for service 'supplement' for Medicare. It's basically like regular insurance- I have a very low premium, but Medicare pays them to avoid dealing with the paperwork.... at least it's actual healthcare.
