In the Hospital,Stopped Breathing

Hi Everyone,

Haven't been around for awhile, had to go stay with my
parents.I had 32 seizures in 10 days.Luckily I was at my
parents when the first one hit,it was a GM( I don't have
too many of those).Since I was at my parents they made
me stay with them, then after 4 days with 23,started to
feel better came home for 3 days when I had another,my
Dad came and got me so I could be there for their labor day
party. After party had 9 more, then I had another GM, my mom
said I stopped breathing and my face was turning really white,
they took me to the hospital and was admitted for 2 days.

Just wondering has anyone else ever stopped breathing,or had
problems with breathing? Is that normal with a GM?

My doctor is now for the first time wanting to take me off all my
meds and put me in hospital for the 48 hour evaluation.I think it
was all due to the few days I was on Zoloft, then after coming
home and having a few more was due to my usual catamenial
seizures, just not granmals though. That is why I haven't been around
much.

Sorry for rambling, any opinions will be appreciated.
Feeling much better now

Take care,Sherri

Re: In the Hospital,Stopped Breathing

Was wondering where you were. So sorry you are going through this. When is your hospital visit? What meds are you taking? i know you were on a low dose of Keppra and ativan but not sure if you are anything else.

Take care of you!

Re: In the Hospital,Stopped Breathing

Hi j2006,

Thanks,I am feeling much better. My doctor has now increased
my Keppra to 500mg. in the morning and at night. They took
me off of Ativan and put me on Klonopin.I cannot stand this
Klonopin,I called my doctor today to get back on the Ativan,I
called late,so I haven't heard from her yet.The Keppra is making
so tired as it did a few years back when I was on 3000mg daily.
I hate it also.Still on tegretol. The Klonopin makes me very dizzy,
I lose my balance and cannot walk straight, also my vision is very
blurry.
I am not sure when my hospital visit will be,I have to go back to
see my doctor on the 17th,and we will talk about it then.

Take care,Sherri

Re: In the Hospital,Stopped Breathing

How much Klonopin do they have you on? Maybe it is the increase in Keppra. That is what happened to me when I increased last month

Hi j2006,

They had me on 1mg of Klonopin.I already stopped taking
it and as soon as I did the side effects went away.As far
as the Keppra,I have been more tired all day,and cannot
go without that nap.

Take care,Sherri

Re: In the Hospital,Stopped Breathing

Try taking .5 or even half of that. .25 works for me. If I take anymore than that I am a mess.

Re: In the Hospital,Stopped Breathing

Hi j2006,

I will try to cut the pills in half and see what happens until
I hear from my doctor. It sounds like 1 mg. is alot to start
out on for Klonopin. It seemed like the Ativan did work better
for my social anxiety.Thanks alot.

Hi gaynor,

Talk to your doctor and let them know how you feel on the
Keppra, and maybe they will wean you off and start you on
something else.I would be afraid of having more seizures if
I just stopped all at once, but, weaning off of it while starting
on another med. may not cause any additional seizures.Your
doctor could also maybe just have you take a little less like
my dr. did a few years back.

Take care,Sherri

Re: In the Hospital,Stopped Breathing

I'm glad you're doing better.

I set off apnea alarms all the time both during and after the seizures, when in the post-ictal sleep (gets me really annoyed). I turn white, and cold, and people think I'm dead. This is with the complex partials. Breathing problems and apnea are pretty common with seizures.

Hi Neuro,

Thanks alot,I am feeling much better,my tongue has healed also,
it was the worst that I ever chewed my tongue up.

Thanks for the info. about turning white and looking dead,my
Mom and Dad both said that I looked like I was going to die,
that is what scared them into taking me to ER.

Thanks again, Sherri

Re: In the Hospital,Stopped Breathing

No problem- I'd get so frustrated (of course, i wasn't the one looking at me looking so lousy) when employers or others wanted to ship me off to the hospital all the time, when for me, turning various colors (sometimes different colors on each arm, blue nail beds and lips, and white everywhere else, the coldness, and very shallow breathing that looked like no breathing- was the "norm"..... I can understand their concerns logically, but it still frustrated me, since I was so out of it, and just wanted to sleep.

And I hear ya about the tongue- mine gets mangled 5-8 times a month during a 'normal' month....at times, there are areas that are white, and look like they're going to fall off from being chomped on so hard. It eventually heals up, but sure is sore until then

Re: In the Hospital,Stopped Breathing

Hi Neuro,

I tell you, I could not have said that any better myself.I also get
so p*ssed off when they ship me off to the hospital, and this time
since I have Medicaire now,the ER and my Dr. admitted me,so I
was fine after sleeping and had to spend another 2 days in hospital
hooked up to a heart monitor.I love my parents to death, but, they
get mad at me when I tell them not to take me to ER.I also think like
you said,I was soooooo out of it,I might have agreed to going, only
because I didn't really know what I was saying.I just had an EEG about
3 months ago,and the hospital set me up for another, they were about
to give me another MRI,but,I told them NO,because I was not sure
Medicaire would pay for it after I just had one 2 months ago, plus my
cost would have been $350.00.I am afraid to see what my cost will be
for the hospital stay.
Yes,my tongue hurt me for almost a week.

Take care,Sherri
