Gran Mal / Tonic Clonic Seizures. I need an update.
My son had gran-mal/tonic-clonic seizures at age 10, he needed to be resussitated after each one as he was totally winded from the muscle spasms.
Fortunately we were with him each time. He was put on 600gms Tegretol daily for 2yrs with no further seizures. He has now been seizure free for 7yrs.
Does anyone know of someone in the same situation, have they had further seizures?. As my son is now starting to go camping with mates I am concerned he may have another seizure with no one around to help him.

Hi tropical girl,
I've suffered grand mal seizures since the age of 10 also and now I've had them for a total of 44 years.I started to Dilantin and then switched to Tegretol from the time I was 19.I was ok until then, totally seizure free.At this age though(19) I started to drink heavily (peer pressure)
and also started to get into drugs.I wish I had never done so because I believe they do have a detrimental effect on ones epileptic condition.I started suffering seizures again and they were a whole lot worse than before and have continued to this day even though I haven't had a drink in twelve years and also given up drugs for some time.Basically I haven't been the same since I started to get into these things and once again I advise you to inform your son of the risks involved if he wishes to get into these things.I wish you luck.

Hi Everybody
The doctors changed the name from Grand Mal to Tonic/Clonic Seizures. The doctors are always changing things. Like petit mal has been changed to Absence Seizures. Drop seiqures is now called atonic seizures.
I am not kidding. This is the truth. The only one that they did not change is STATUS EPILEPTICUS. Probably because you can die from that one.
They do have specialists for children that are 10 years old. Check it out.
