Lamictal and Depression

hi everybody,

I was wondering if anybody who is on lamictal has experienced depression as a side effect? I've been on it for about seven years and have been depressed for about that long too. I have OCD as well which is a part of why I'm depressed but I'm feeling extremely depressed and helpless lately and need to find something that might help.

Thanks guys,
Jillian

Re: Lamictal and Depression

Jillian,
I hope you had a good weekend. I was a bit surprised that no one responded to this post. I don't know if your feelings of depression could be from your medication or from epilepsy. There is such a huge connection between Epilepsy and other neurological things....like depression....and migraines...and on and on....even Sleep Apnea....

But then....it could be a medication side effect....! Oh well....have a great week...

Re: Lamictal and Depression

Hi Jillian,
I just wanted to let you know I understand how you feel. But I just started taking Depekote and I've also had OCD my whole life. Since starting this drug, I feel immediate depression that is unbearable. I am trying to get hold of my Doctor now. I am off work this week and maybe I'm whimpy, but I need more time. I can't work, especially collections, feeling like this. So I guess that can be a side effect of meds. I am getting off of it right away though. I couldn't take it any longer than the past couple weeks I've been on it. I just went through a long term EEG at a hospital so hopefully they can try another medication that will work. Good luck and really get hold of your neurologist.

Hi, ive been on lamictal for 4 years and have been miserable on it, crying all the time just don't feel like smiling, im eactly the same as you and its got to stop, I have heard that alot of people on epilepsy medication are also on antidepressants, so im going to my doctor to see if he can put me on something like amitriptolin (i not sure how you spell it) hopefully that will work.
